IDRS NVMS Solution
IDRS NVMS (IDRS distribution Net-Video Management System) is aimed to build remote surveillance project with multi-level so that each monitoring-branch can keep in touch with monitoring-center real-timely. Thus monitoring-center is easy to manage the whole project.
1. Customer demands
- 1) Set up monitoring-center; keep surveillance on still customers and motive customers. Instantly receive and cope with alarms.
- 2) Set up monitoring-branches in every area or main department so as to monitor customers real-timely, receive and cope with alarms instantly.
- 3) Monitoring-branches can keep in touch with monitoring-center real-timely. Thus monitoring-center is easy to manage the whole project.
2. Main points of solution designing
- 1) Set up multi-level distribution surveillance system
- The major problem lies in structure of entire system. Our system not only can perfectly monitor all worksites of cameras, which refers to receiving audio & video signals and sensor signals, but also can solve how to manage so many worksites of camera and so many monitoring-branches, which is more important than the former function of simply receiving signals. In such a huge and complex system, the former function (receiving signal) is easier than the latter which is mainly applied for integrating various equipments, information, customer resources, and complex operations of all parts of system. By this way, an actual management system is built successfully with strict order, high efficiency, excellent flexibility and much convenience. Thus we should adopt advanced core device——“multimedia digital host”, as well as pay attention to the ability of system managing and the construction of management platform. Now, we adopt “IDRS distribution management platform”.

- a front-end devices
- In CCTV system, the front-end devices include camera, lens, pan/tilt, housing and other accessory equipments, as well as “IDRS6000S multimedia digital surveillance host (with memory)” or IDRS40Xc series net-video server (without memory) which compress audio & video signal into digital signal as to store locally or upload to network. The IDRS series adopts advanced H.264 skill of compression which is a new kind of video encoding standard based on MPEG—4. H.264 overcomes weakness of MPEG—4 and H.263, adopting new encoding method and enhancing encoding efficiency in mix coding environment, thus H.264 faces actual application. Comparing to other compression formats, H.264 format has own features: encoding between frames, predicting skill of action compensation of changeable blocking; inside-frame encoding, space predicting skill with multi-direction; in-loop deblocking filter, get rid of blocking effect; 4x4 integral transform and corresponding quantization strategy; improved motion prediction encoding; more efficient entropy coders such as CABAC/CAVLC, RDOpt and so on. Therefore, H.264 skill has advantages beyond comparison no matter on local surveillance, storage and network uploading as to realize network surveillance. Besides, for it is created by the two biggest international standardization associations, H.264 has broad market.
- b Recording & Stream Media Server
- As the important device in CCTV system, Recording & Stream Media Server refers to “network monitoring host” which are in each monitoring center or monitoring branch and are composed by multimedia computer, decoding hardware and “Recording & Stream Media Server software”. Recording & Stream Media Server is in charge of connecting video station of previous monitoring center or direct connecting each “IDRS multimedia digital host” (DVR) and ”IDRS DVS” (digital video server) so as to display remote images, record objects, control pan / tilt and receive alarm signal.
- It is necessary to notice that in “IDRS distribution management platform”, higher level monitoring center visits all channels signal by directly visiting “Recording & Stream Media Server” involved in these lower level monitoring centers. Thus, it is avoided that multi-level centers visit DVR or DVS, which leads to occupy more bandwidth, waste resource and reduce bandwidth which causes to fail to visit or appear system halted. If parts of surveillance sites have no monitoring-branch, these sites can be directly controlled by Recording & Stream Media Servers of monitoring-center.
- For limited by computer-self and present network environment, one video-workstation can only remotely control and manage finite DVR and DVS (max 24 channels video). So when there are excessive surveillance-sites, monitoring-branches of all levels need “multiple video-workstations” manage cooperatively.
- c Management & Authentication Server
- For a big network surveillance system, there are usual scores of even hundreds of channel signal. So, it is necessary for all levels monitoring-branch to build numerous “Recording & Stream Media Servers” which are in grouping management of DVR surveillance signal and DVS surveillance signal. Moreover, system should preset multiple monitoring-branches with different levels and temporary monitoring-branches various visitors. In such a situation, we must adopt a “central manager”------Management & Authentication Server which prevents system from breakdown caused by excessive confusion. As the system management center and data authorization center, Management & Authentication Server is responsible for centrally manage various controlling-devices (DVR, DVS, Recording & Stream Media Server) and various terminal-users. Management & Authentication Server includes functions such as data record & registration authentication on every device, data record & registration authentication on every user, internal equipments ownership configuration, internal authorization configuration of users, remote central adjustment of device parameters & setting, and resource distribution & appointment. “Management & Authentication Server” which is composed by multimedia computer and “Management & Authentication Server software” is usually installed in monitoring-center.
- d Network clients
- Network clients are not monitoring-center clients. Network clients refer to these unmemorable “personal low level clients” which have remote surveillance demands but are not online all the time. Due to these clients are relatively casual and usually personal clients with lower surveillance demands which refer to functions of remote surveillance and controlling, we put such clients into “network clients” series in order to differ to the terminal users of “monitoring-center”. “Network clients” are also composed by multimedia computer and “clients’ software”, but because of few demands, “network clients” can be operated by laptop conveniently whenever or wherever.
- C. System operating introduction
- When monitoring-branches or clients begin surveillance remotely, it is necessary to logon “Management & Authentication Server” and pass “name and passport”
- Management & Authentication Server recognizes and authenticates current user according to system data previously stored.
- Passed through authentication, user enters relative interface which shows authorized operations list (or all surveillance sites available), manages the remote surveillance sites. At the present, nevertheless, every time login need manually add address of front-end equipments, which is not only a tiring process but also a difficult affair for finding some useful addresses in such a surveillance system with hundreds of channels.

- Add, revise and delete front-end equipments involving Network Video Server (NVS) and DVR.
- Revise front-end equipments such as NVS and DVR about name, IP address, and Subnet Mask, gateway, connecting port, user name as well as passport.
- Set description, image quality of transmission and transmission speed for each monitoring channel of those front-end equipments such as NVS and DVR.

- 2) Video, audio and alarm detection cooperate as to realize utmost linkage effect
- For the surveillance field with high security grade, in order to pay more attention to the security work, it is necessary to set up a cubic detection system with all-direction and multi-method. Thus we must, based on “video surveillance system”, build “video & alarm linkage detection system” which adopts “material prevention, technical prevention” for ensuing reactions during series of “instant alarm—accurate judgment—quick record—effective warning”. The realization of these system-functions depends on whether DVR host has two factors: (1) Perfective platform for alarm input (2) Linkage design with intelligence.
- According to the above analysis, we adopt IDRS6000S series digital-multimedia-surveillance-system which has the best performance contemporary. Digital-multimedia-surveillance-system ensures operate synchronously during the below linkage functions (available):
- Once alarm detector is triggered, alarm signal will be immediately transmitted to local monitoring room. Then alert clock and alert light automatically starts to alarm with 110-auto-dialer operating synchronously. The related chargers are alarmed by telephone or mobile phone.
- As local monitoring room receiving alarm, the monitoring interface of IDRS host will pop out electronic map (planar graph, not GIS map) which shows alarm position.
- IDRS monitoring host automatically opens alert light / emergency lamp automatically opens, which provide camera sufficient luminance in order to watch alert situation clearly. Besides, it is operable for operators to control light manually so as to watch alert situation whenever.
- After detector is triggered, the related camera or cameras will automatically start to record. Besides, system supports pre-recording alarm function which can records whole process of event.
- Provided front-end section installs intelligent all-in-one camera, the camera will automatically turn to alarm area in order to capture images. Thus guards can instantly check images. Because of saving time of manual operation, it saves a lot of time for dealing emergency.
- System supports management for alarm log, automatically recording alarm situation and information in order to investigate later.
- Helped by the network alarm function of IDRS host, detector will automatically upload local alert video and information to the first level control center or other net computers with alarm linkage, such as local police station. Net alarm host has as same alarm linkage functions as locals which include automatic popping out electronic map with showing alarm position, automatic uploading & popping out alarm images, automatic recording alert situation, displaying & recording alarm info, operating alert clock & alert light and dial-up kit and other alarm devices. Moreover, remote controllers can control the output alarm functions of local monitoring center. These functions include opening & closing acousto-optic alerter, dial-up alerter and light ON/OFF. Accordingly, the whole system enlarges effective scope of alarm, strengthens security detection mechanism and management mechanism, and avoids passive affection caused by local controller’s absence. Thereby, security is greatly enhanced.
