ADSL based Remote Monitoring System Solution

As ADSL network is more and more popular, more customers want to realize remote monitoring by PSTN,ISDN or ADSL pattern. But theses patterns face a common problem that is every logon adopts different IP addresses. If client adopts dialup network and front-end devices (NVS, DVR) adopts fixed IP address, customers can directly put in front-end IP and directly browse front-end images. In practical application, it is usual that front-end devices (NVS, DVR) adopts dialup network (PSTN, ISDN, ADSL) which causes troubles for client, because front-end IP is unfixed and client must previously know the IP for directly visiting front-end devices. As for this problem, we introduce to customers network transmission solution which is based on IDRS NVS, IDRS DVR dynamic transmission (such as ADSL).

Two patterns for IDRS network surveillance with ADSL dialup

a) Statically visit dynamic IP by DDNS (Dynamic DNS)

Dynamic DNS (domain name system) service means synchronous analysis between fixed domain name and dynamic (unfixed) IP address. In another words, contrast to traditional static DNS, dynamic DNS can resolve a fixed domain name to dynamic IP address. Simply speaking, no matter when to login, how to login, what the IP address is, whether IP address is fixed or not, dynamic DNS ensures visit client by a fixed domain name.

b) Statically visit dynamic IP by DNS software of IDRS client

As for ADSL users, our company provides basic clients software (Management & Authentication Server, IDRS-Recording & stream media server and IDRS-Client), as well as DNS-server which is specially designed for dynamic IP remote monitoring. Follows are the operating principle: first set DNS-server address in IDRS NVS, thus as long as NVS or DVR dial up successfully, DNS server automatically receives devices addresses (including current IP address, NVS or DVR identification, communication interface address). Thus no matter how to change IP address, as long as network is in connection, NVS or DVR data will be transmitted in DNS-server. Management & Authentication Server also has DNS settings. Before connecting to front-end devices, Management & Authentication Server connects with DNS server, confirms front-end devices online or not. If online, this front-end device IP address will be selected out from DNS database, then IDRS-Man Server can normal connect to front-end devices. Recording & stream media server and network client gets front-end device IP address by directly connecting to Management & Authentication Server.

    c) Contrast between the two solutions
  • DDNS solution has advantages that client is not limited by network; even dynamic IP client can also visit front-end device by visiting domain name bundled with front-end device; and has disadvantages that DDNS solution depends on server which provides domain name analysis. System operation is affected by third-party. If DNS server is unstable, it is fail to connect.
  • DNS software solution has advantages that it need not the third-party help, all operations are finished by own; and has disadvantages that client must have fixed IP address.
  • IDRS supports both the above solution. User selects favorite according to practical situations.
